Video:Heather Baird- Autism. Life. Vacation?!? Amelia Island. Fernandina Beach. Sea Turtles

We did it! We managed a family vacation! Of course, Joe needed much down time in between activities, so Daddy and Mommy rotated spending time with the elder kids and doing Joe friendly activities.

We visited Amelia Island, Florida and stayed here:

I found a Groupon for the stay. It is a 2 star hotel, but it was clean and the staff was amazing. I warned them Joe was autistic and a runner. One afternoon, the eldest was enjoying the sun on the balcony and staff called to verify I knew that a child was on the balcony. I mean talk about amazing service!

We also visited Fort Clinch State Park. I highly recommend it! It was not crowded and it was beautiful:

It was tough finding really good food on the island. I do highly recommend The Salty Pelican. OMG the food was so good and the staff was so sweet. I wish I would have caught our waiters name. I came with the older two boys one day and returned with EVERYONE the next day. Grandpa lives about and hour or so away. So glad we were able to meet up.

The historic city of Fernandina was lovely. I met many kind locals, shop owners and artists. I highly recommend you stop by:

Overall a very calm city, very uncrowded beaches, and awesome locals.

I’m sure there is some nightlife if you look for it, if you are into that sort of thing.

Oh and one more thing! When you visit, check the following site for turtle digs! You can go and watch them dig up a sea turtle nest! OMG the baby turtle was so flipping cute.
