Thesun.co.uk: Mum gets PS9million compensation for autistic son she would have aborted if doc hadn't botched test

A MOTHER who would have aborted her son had she been told he would be disabled won a record £9million compensation yesterday for his “wrongful birth”.

Omodele Meadows, 40, asked her GP in 2006 to test her for the haemophilia gene after finding a relative had it.

High Court judge Mrs Justice Yip said: “Adejuwon would not have been born but for the defendant’s negligence”

High Court judge Mrs Justice Yip said: “Adejuwon would not have been born but for the defendant’s negligence”

She was mistakenly given the all-clear. Five years later she gave birth to Adejuwon and discovered he had an aggressive form of haemophilia and autism.

She then had detailed genetic tests that confirmed her as a carrier of the blood condition.

Ms Meadows said her son was now “much loved” but sued GP Dr Hafshah Khan, who admitted that “but for his negligence, Adejuwon would not have been born”.

Dr Khan’s lawyers agreed to pay Ms Meadows £1.4million, but refused a larger sum to include the extra costs relating to Adejuwon’s autism, which was just “bad luck”.

But High Court judge Mrs Justice Yip upheld the claim in full, awarding £9million.

She said: “Adejuwon would not have been born but for the defendant’s negligence. Ms Meadows therefore would not have had a child with haemophilia and autism.”
